Firetail® Fellowship
get a full Firetail License for your Project
We invest in early-career researchers and conservation projects. If you have a great idea but limited funding, the Fellowship gives you the tools to make it happen.
What you get
Accepted projects will receive a full Firetail license and access to our expert support for up to one year.
That's unlimited GPS fixes, unlimited sensor samples, all features — the same edition professionals use.
What you need
A decent idea for a student project or an ongoing project in the scope of:
- • movement ecology
- • animal tracking
- • conservation
- • GIS

Eligible for students, PhD candidates, recent PhDs and non-profit organisation associates. If your project is backed by sufficient 3rd party or institutional funding to cover Firetail, we ask you to be fair and file a request there first.
What we need
- 1. An abstract of 250 to 400 words explaining the core idea, novelty, impact
- 2. 1–2 figures explaining your ideas (optional)
- 3. A few references to related work providing scientific context
Please include an affiliation, start and end date and supervisors (if applicable).
Language: English or German.
What we ask in return
The Fellowship is free. In return, we ask for three small things that help us keep the program running and support the community:
Cite Firetail
Acknowledge Firetail in any resulting publication. A citation helps other researchers find the tool.
Share a testimonial
After 3 months, tell us in 2 sentences how Firetail helped your project. We may feature it on our website.
Join the community
Allow us to list your project (name, institution, species) on our community page. Show the world what you're working on.
